Thursday 22nd July - Canberra to Sydney

After checking out of the motel we stopped in town for a phone card and inadvertantly picked up a parking ticket that we're disputing, and then drove to Sydney. It was a very sunny day, and although the temperature outside was still possibly below freezing, the car was lovely and warm and cosy, and they played a bit of Hotel California on the radio, which makes seven and a half out of eight countires now. Which is nice. We stopped for our picnic in someone's driveway, which wasn't intentional, and then carried on back to New South Wales. There were clouds of cockatoos and parrots and everything was summery.

Back in Sydney we left our bags in the hostel after exchanging our original booking for a ridiculously expensive double room to a slightly less ridiculously expensive dormitory. Then we searched, and found, Bondi Beach. We had a nice walk along the sand, watching all the surfing instructors show off to their classes of girls, and I almost paddled but decided against it in the end. Then it was time to take the car back to where it belonged, and Mikey's weird navigational technique kicked in. I'll conceed that Sydney is not nice to drive through, but his method of compensationary left and right turns left me bemused and us both a little lost. But we got there in the end. Well, we had to, there weren't any other streets to try!

It took about forty minutes to walk back to the hostel, where we made our beds, did some laundry, had supper and generally sat and read. We're off to Melbourne tomorrow, but not until lunchtime, which is a more civilised hour for flying!
