After breakfast we got back on the bus and drove up the beach a bit. A 40-minute walk through eucalyptus forests and over sand dunes brought us to Lake Wabby, a beautiful blue body of water nestled between lush green forest and stunning, flawless sand dunes. We took a detour up to a view point (another forest walk on sand tracks) which was beautiful.
We passed a strangely-naked man on the way there - he was wearing a t-shirt and a rucksack but nothing else.
Finally we reached the lake and the gorgeous yellow sand surrounding it. I jumped in and coerced Mikey into joining me, then went for a swim round the lake. It wasn't that cold once I was in! The swallows or swifts kept darting round my head looking for insects on the water's surface, and it was beautifully peaceful in the sun. I sunbathed for a bit to dry off, and we had to walk very quickly back to the beach and the bus so as not to be the last of the group.
Unfortunately that was the end of the tour. We went back to the hotel for lunch but it wasn't even noon, so we sat by the pool for a while first. After lunch we went for a walk and watched the planes land on the beach - at 75 miles long it's possibly the longest runway in the world - and at 2.30 we joined yesterday's bus driver for our trip back to Rainbow Beach. He gallantly pulled a stuck 4x4 out of the sand, and the bus hardly seemed to notice the extra weight. I think the car driver was suitably embarrased.
We passed a whole group of dingoes on the beach and stopped to watch a whale go past, and then we were back on the ferry and in Rainbow Beach by 4. We stopped at the supermarket for supper, checked our e-mail and then read for a bit. After supper I beat Mikey at table tennis, but it was close again. Then I caught up on my diary and went to sleep. We've got a nasty bus ride tomorrow.
