We had to get up early to get to the bottom of the harbour bridge for 8am. We took a bus to give us a few extra minutes in bed! The Harbour Bridge Tour company are very well-organised, and process their customers on a mini production line: one room for liability forms; one room for suits; one room for harnesses; one room for hats and fleeces; a practice bridge; a radio area and then we filed out of the door in a line. I had somehow managed to get to the front of the group of about twelve of us, which was the best place to be - Mikey and I got all the best views while we were waiting for the others.
The climb was a lot less strenuous than I thought and not really scary - we were all tied on with harnesses and there were handrails all the way along. We had about two hours on the bridge, stopping to have our photos taken (we couldn't take our own cameras) and admiring the incredible views. It was a really good trip and I was glad that we'd done it.
We had just enough time to have lunch in the sun at the water's edge before going to the opera. It was a nice feeling to be able to walk into the theatre and see a performance rather than with the guided tour. Most people were in jeans and trainers so, although we'd tried to dress smartly, we didn't feel too out of place. The Mikado was a nice performance, enjoyable and very easy to listen to. At the interval we stood in the bar area which was all glass and had amazing views of the harbour bridge and the big black clouds behind it.
We came back to the hostel via a supermarket and we're going to cook supper shortly. Then it's off to the Blue Mountains in the morning, so we've stocked up on chocolate for the car!
