Everybody needs good neighbours

We spent our last night in Sydney in a dorm and to be honest it wasn't too bad. We were sharing with a couple from India who were very pleasant and we picked up a few useful suggestions for the last country on our trip.

We weren't in too much of a hurry to get the airport as we had a flight at a very reasonable time. Or so I thought. We caught a train from the central station to the domestic terminal and checked in. I thought we weren't flying until 12.30 but it turns out that our flight was actually at 12.00. A bit closer than I had planned but there wasn't any reason to worry, we were soon boarded on a brand new A330 and bound for Melbourne.

We took an airport shuttle to our hostel and, being the last ones dropped off, we received an informal tour of Melbourne on the way. By the time we were settled into our room, there was only enough daylight left to nip to a nearby supermarket. We spent the evening reading, eating and watching American Pie 2.

We didn't really get up very early at all the following day. It was a Saturday and we haven't had a real Saturday for a long, long time. I don't think we've had an easy day for quite some time (except for the ones in Milford Sound). We went out to get some milk (because we forgot it yesterday) and had breakfast at about 11am. We didn't have much planned for the day. Actually, we didn't have anything planned. We walked into Melbourne centre and wandered around for a while.

We discovered that we've actually arrived during Melbourne's Film Festival so we thought that seemed like encouragement to visit a cinema. On a normal, lazy Saturday back home we might do exactly the same thing. We opted for Fahrenheit 9/11 at the Dendy cinema. (I like the Dendy chain of cinemas for the record.) F9/11 wasn't as good as Bowling for Columbine, not as balanced but it was still worth seeing. George Bush comes across as a contemptible moron which, I think, was the idea. That was the sum total of our Saturday.

If it was at all possible, we did even less on Sunday. We didn't even leave the hostel until 2pm. We booked a rental car for the following day and then managed nothing more than repacking Claire's bag, looking at the internet and watching I, Robot. I enjoyed it quite a lot.

We're so lazy aren't we? I have to say though that we needed the break.
