Getting down lower, you can see the sites of the hobbit holes. They were originally scheduled to be destroyed after filming but a downpour halted work long enough for the landowner to get permission from New Line cinema to operate tours.

Paradise Valley Springs and Wildlife Park (near Rotorua) has its own pride of lions. This is Max.
In addition to lots of trout, deer, Kune Kune pigs, ducks and Wallabies they have some Merino sheep. Just so you know, this is what one looks like. Claire even managed to feed it without sustaining another animal related injury!
Hell's Gate is a collection of thermal pools once descibed by George Bernard Shaw as the most damnable place he'd ever been. (Was Milton Keynes invented then?) Aside from the overpowerin sulphur smell, I liked it.
In Waiotapu there are some more hot pools to be found. This one is called The Devil's bath. The yellow / green colour comes from sulphur.
At 10:15 every day, Lady Knox squirts warm water several metres into the air.
