During our brief visit to Napier, we saw the rather nice looking Daily Telegraph building.
Our hostel in Turangi had its own climbing wall. Claire had a quick go before we left in the morning.
The Grand Chateau hotel in Whakapapa has a large window with this glorious view. Yep, that is snow out there.

As we wandered around just outside Iwikau village, Claire had fun in the snow. Right up to her middle. She never went there again.
Not that you could tell with a few feet of snow there but these slopes were used for some of the Mordor and Emyn Muil sequences of the LOTR films.
A two hour round trip walk through the snow took us to the the Taranaki falls.
The Rangitekeiri river gorge was one of the four rivers used to form the river Anduin.
